We always look forward to hosting an evening of songwriters in the round! For this one, we are bringing back two friends and welcoming a new one for a night of sharing stories and songs.
Our good buddy Mike Ward will be back at Over Yonder! Award-winning Detroit singer-songwriter Mike Ward is known for his lyrically-centric, vocally-charged folk songs. Born in the 50’s, he grew up through the conscious-raising 60’s, where a new awareness of the world was colliding around him (both good and bad). His influences range from Dylan to Prine to Jason Isbell.
Mike has an intimate songwriting style that reflects family, community and the world around us. His fear of leaving this world without making a difference in the lives of others, is part of what drives him.” How can any of us rest with so much work to be done?”
Dave Toennies first played a round with us in 2019, and boy are we looking forward to having him back. Dave is a freelance artist, designer, and musician with a difficult last name living in Hamtramck, Michigan. He has a Bachelor of Science in Transportation Design from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. After a stint in the auto industry, he embraced the gig economy and has spent the last several years working on a freelance basis. He leads the international Detroit-Windsor band Border Patrol and hosts the popular open mic night at Detroit’s Ghost Light.
Up and coming songstress Kora Feder grew up immersed in the Northern California folk music scene, lived in NYC for a few years, and is now a proud resident of Detroit, Michigan. After two years spent wielding a backpack and guitar across the world culminating in a Thai PBS special on songwriting and indigenous rights, Kora returned to the U.S. very much up to the task of confronting the times we live in. Carefully crafted songs that often hold a novel’s worth of words without feeling overcrowded, Kora has earned national songwriting accolades and praise for her lyrical precision and impassioned delivery
